About Darling Nikki’s

Darling Nikki’s A new name for an old Venue.

The White Horse Hotel in St Peters, a pub with a nefarious history that dates back to times when you didn’t need a second mortgage to fill the car up with petrol. Holding the dubious honour of being Sydney’s most robbed pub, the White Horse was the place to be seen in St Peters where the working class rubbed shoulders with the seedy side of Sydney.

After a number of different publicans The White Horse Hotel took a little time to rest and regather itself before being transformed into The House of Music and Booze, a venue which was instrumental in Sydneys’ journey to bring the live music scene back from the brink of death. Offering an intimate but lively music venue for many emerging and established artists.

Fast forward a few years and the great folks of the HM&B have decided to move on to other opportunities which now opens the way for the birth of the cool. The one and only Darling Nikki’s

Who the @#$% is Nikki?

No one really knows for sure, but one thing we can tell you is that she left a note on the stairs thanking us for a funky time.

Darling Nikki is a song by the greatest musical talents the world has ever seen the one and only PRINCE.

Given we are huge Prince fans, our venue is located on Princes Highway and the song Darling Nikki has a unique place in music history how could we name our Venue anything else.

Darling Nikki featured on the legendary album Purple Rain and is about a girl named Nikki that rocked the musicians world. The song itself lays claim to changing the way in which music would be marketed forever, after Tipper Gore, the wife of the then Vice President Al Gore took issue with the lyrics of the song after hearing it being played by her daughter.

Armed with a list of songs coined “the Filthy Fifteen” Tipper Gore fought to protect the fragile and vulnerable ears of teens buying this vulgar music. Apart form Darling Nikki (which topped the list, “The Filthy Fifteen” also contained
Madonna’s, Dress You Up, Black Sabbath’s, Trashed and AC/DC’s Let me Put My Love Into You. In addition to these Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, the list included artists like Cyndi Lauper, Sheena Easton and the Mary Jane Girls.

Something must be done to protect the children and the Parental Advisory label was born, it was decreed that for the rest of time a sticker warning all innocent potential purchasers of these vulgar albums, would be plastered to the front, so that they wouldn’t get home and have there brains melted by accidently hearing some bad language or adult themes. So thanks to the classic song about a sex fiend that seduced a young man looking for a good time, innocent children around the world will forever be protected from the evils of ROCK ‘N ROLL.
